Why? No More (12th Nov 2000)

For the second time in just over a year we can report that the name Why? is to disappear from the scene very soon. The guys who formed the latest lineup plan to change their name at the end of the year and are also promising a "complete overhaul of their musical direction". The new band will continue to record on Alliance Music. The band have asked us to pass on their "most sincere thanks for all the love and support we have received this year" and are looking forward to their new venture. The move is sure to please a number of people who have expressed concern about the band continuing as Why? after the departure of Ant Parker. The last chance to see this incarnation of Why? will be on December 15th in Maidstone (click the link for more info). They are also looking for a new bass player -- check out the message boards.

Ant's Return (10th Jun 2000)

EiS, who currently manage Andy Thornton are expanding their operations and will soon be releasing a new recording from Ant Parker, founder member of Why?. They are also planning to release an album from experimental outfit Brotherhood of the Holy Cross as well as a new EP from Andy. We'll bring you more news as we get it.

Why Again? (26th Mar 2000)

As reported a couple of weeks ago, popular "funky-frock" act Why? are about to return to stages around the country. The band have a new guitarist, Kev Sefton, who will replace founding member Ant Parker. The band will make their first appearance with the new lineup at this year's Spring Harvest. Drummer Andy Davis promises that "people will be able to enjoy the music of Why? as before but hopefully cope with yet another line-up change".

Why oh Why oh Why? (16th Feb 2000)

Why? disbanded some months ago now, but rumours are surfacing that three former members are planning to form a worship/covers band under the same name. This new band would not include founder-member Ant Parker or any other original member of the band. Ant is currently deciding whether to release a documentary video about the band which has been prepared as a momento.

Why? Split (29th Sep 1999)

Speed-folk outfit Why? have announced that as of the 2nd October the band will be no more! Active for the best part of the past decade, Why? has been known for its revolving door approach to members (only singer/guitarist Ant Parker has remained)and hilarious stage antics. Greenbelt will certainly be less sweaty without them.

The band's last show was as part of the Methodist church's Breakout event in Birmingham. It has not yet emerged what all the members will be moving on to, but it seems likely that Ant Parker will be making a solo career for himself. More news as and when we get it.

Why? No Concerts (19th May 1999)

Popular "funky frock" band, Why? have announced that they will not be playing at any more UK concerts except for special events and festivals. The band say that working the UK scene they have had to put up with too many poorly organised concerts with bad sound systems in awkward venues and that they are regretfully leaving this sort of work.

Deliriously Glastonbury (05th May 1999)

Delirious? have announced that they will be playing on the mainstage at this year's Glastonbury festival. The band will appear on the Sunday night and hope that this appearance will help them establish themselves within the mainstream music scene. Glastonbury has previously seen performances by Iona, Eden Burning and Why? but this slot is an unprecedented opportunity for a band who have previously been established within the "Christian music" scene.

Time of our Lives (05th May 1999)

The Church of England's Time of our Lives event happened over the bank holiday weekend and drew a crowd of around 4000 young Anglicans. Featured musicians included LCGC, Why?, dba and Courtney Pine. Unfortunately the independent bands evening was cancelled, which was a great loss. dba are shortly to release their debut single through Howard Jones' label.

Kato Sign With EMS (24th Feb 1999)

Popular Lancashire act Katohave signed a management deal with Event Management Services who also manage Why? and Split Level.

Why? Announce They're Happy (16th Dec 1998)

The band are doing a three-day tourof cathedrals in towns beginning with "L" to launch the album, andpre-release copies will be available at a reduced price at these events. The band's website has had a quick update and it is due to be furtherupdated come the new year.

Why? In February? (02nd Dec 1998)

Madcap speed-folksters, Why? hope to have their next studio album on the shelves in February. Produced by an ex-member of Fat and Frantic, the newer material seems to draw from slightly more diverse influences, with the changes accentuated by the addition of keyboards and removal of violin from the lineup.
