The organisers of the annual Christmas Rock Night in Germany have been in touch to ask us to remind our readers that the debut performance of Split Level frontman Adrian Thompson's new band, The Joy Brigade, will be at their event next month. Adrian's band will include Trevor Michael on guitar/backing vocals, Mark Prentice on bass and Paul Evans on drums. The Electrics will also be keeping up the British presence at CRN as they preview material from their new studio album which will be released in Germany on Pleitgeier Records. Word is that the folk-rock core of The Electrics' sound has remained intact but can now be heard being played faster.
Caroline Alexander's second single is to be released on December 8th. A double A-side featuring the tracks "I Don't Need You" and "Healed" (a cover of the Split Level song) is again produced by Dave Lynch. Caroline is half-way through a seven week spell in the studio recording six new tracks with producers Lionel Hicks and Tony Ritchie. The tracks are to be mixed in Germany by American producer Denis Ward for BMG and it is thought that they could form the basis of a major label deal next year. Caroline is playing one more live date this year.
Delirious? will put in their second appearance at Germany's Christmas Rock Night this December, the event's 21st anniversary. They'll be joined by fellow Britlinks acts Fono, Psalmistry, BottleRockit and CRN favourites The Electrics. This year will be the first in 15 that Split Level will not play at CRN, but Adrian Thompson will be present to share details of some of his musical plans.
Split Level haveannounced that they are not disbanding, as previous reports suggested, but areinstead taking a year off to consider the band's future and to refresh theirvision for their music. They will not be taking any more bookings for at leasta year after completing all their current engagements. The band are also keento express their appreciation of messages of support and encouragement theyhave received since news came out that changes were afoot.
Split Level played what will almost certainly be their last ever UK concert last night in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Supported by Simon Goodall and local band C*A*S*H*U the band played a set of their newer material. Vocalist/guitarist Adrian Thompson explained that there is no longer the energy to keep the band going with the different members based in entirely different areas of the country, and that the new material he is writing doesn't really suit the band. Split Level will play various concerts on the European mainland over the next five months before calling it a day.
Plans for a new Split Level EP had to be put on a backburner when vocalist/guitarist Adrian Thompson's father passed away, but the band have a special treat for fans in the form of a live album taken from their set at Germany's Christmas Rock Night last December. Bonus cuts on the album will include the song "Window Shopping" which was recorded for the Greenbelt 25 album, a new song "Every Breath" and possibly an enhanced CD segment containing the video for the track "Healed" (subject to negotiations). The band are taking a break for a while.
Among the latest batch of bookings for Germany's Christmas Rock Night is the seemingly omni-present delirious?. The boys from Littlehampton will make their German debut headlining the Friday night, and will be joined over the weekend by the Electrics, Split Level, and Sammy Horner (presenting his celtic praise live show). ICC are hoping to ship the live compilation recorded at last year's event by the end of this month.
Split Level have studio time booked and are hoping to record an EP to follow up their last album glo.bal. Initial reports suggest that the EP will see the band returning to a much rawer, almost punky sound rather than continuing in the more produced vein of glo.bal. The band have a website under construction at http://www.splitlevel.co.uk
British acts due to appear at this summer's Flevo Festival in Holland include Split Level and Mr. Bennett. The festival is also playing host to Supertones, Kryptonite Garden, Three Crosses, Normal Generation, Sonic Flood, Vigilanes of Love, Small Town Poets, Die Papste, Salt and The Potboilers and more. Expect detailed coverage on the new Flevo website which opened last Wednesday.
Popular Lancashire act Katohave signed a management deal with Event Management Services who also manage Why? and Split Level.
The well established Christmas Rock Night in Germany will this year be recorded by ICC Records for a compilation live album to be released in the new year. Christmas Rock Night was the forum that led to US record deals for Split Level, Fono, and The Electrics. This year's event will see the final performance of Grammatrain as well as appearances from a wide range of other artists from several countries.
A 25-year anniversary special at Greenbelt was a compilation CD featuring some of the best acts to perform at the festival over the years. The Alarm are featured alongside Tribe Of Dan, Eden Burning, Split Level and many more. It is available through ICC Music.
