The Church Times is reporting that the Junction 1 festival, planned for the same weekend as the long-running Greenbelt festival, has so far sold only 287 tickets despite forecasting an attendance of over 7000 for the August bank holiday weekend. This low pre-sales figure follows much criticism of the event's timing. Greenbelt are reporting that so far over 2,500 tickets have been sold, including twice as many youth (12-17 year olds) tickets as last year. Based on previous years' patterns Greenbelt is anticipating an attendance of over 10,000 at the event which returns for a second year at Cheltenham Racecourse.
The decision to include a local band not normally found at "Christian" events has drawn some press attention for Cheltenham's Pentecost 2000 event. The Chaos Engine, who have been invited as part of the event organisers' attempt to encourage local talent, wouldn't be drawn on their beliefs, saying simply that they "don't believe in following religion blindly" (which hopefully none of us do...). Other artists slated to appear at the event at Cheltenham Racecourse include Delirious?, our current indie of the month skinflowers, World Wide Message Tribe, Urban Militia, and Expanse.
Bournemouth's Race are looking to change their name as they enter a new stage in their development. The band is looking to record again soon and wants anyone with any good suggestions for their new name to get in touch.
Next year's Greenbelt Festival will return to the festival's historic August bank holiday slot. Cheltenham Racecourse seemed to be a popular move with the Greenbelt faithful, although a few complained about the atmosphere, which took a while to warm up as people got to know the new site.
Race continue to be active, with two shows planned so far for this summer. The band recently released a songbook to accompany their Thoughts I'm Feeling EP. They're hoping to record a follow-up soon.
Race have announced a string of events later this month under the title Jazz Cafe.
Robin from the band Race will be performing a solo acoustic slot in support of Ezra very soon. Robin will also be playing keyboards for Bryn Haworth in April and a Race songbook is now available.
We were told that the original lineup of Race would not gig together. We were told wrongly. This jaz-tinged pop act from Bournemouth will be bringing together the original lineup again at Christmas for at least one show, maybe more. Their CDs continue to sell fast and good reviews are coming in along with radio play. Find more about Race in the band index.
