The guys behind the Halcyon event in Worcester are about to start an "online battle of the bands". Winning bands will be invited to come and play at the event, which this year features acts such as All Star United, My BottleRockit and Phatfish. For more information email info@halcyononline.org
Word UK have announced the launch of a new imprint called Focus. The new label is intended to be a "home for the best contemporary Christian music in the UK and Europe today" and will initially be the launchpad for Phatfish, RiverDeep and Norway's Salvation Street who make their UK debut at this year's Greenbelt festival. The label will be headed up by Word UK's music manager, Shelley Needham and will be launched with a gig in Milton Keynes on August 31st. There seems to have been renewed investment in the UK scene from several major players recently, and the launch of Focus comes soon after news of Alliance's signing of Kindle and ICC's launch of their Elevation label.
Paul Field's latest album is called In The Long Run. Co-produced with Dave Lynch (R:age, Kato, Toploader), the album features guest appearances from Paul and Phil Wilkinson of The Amazing Pilots and Louise Fellingham of Phatfish and also a song co-written with John Hartley (Phil And John) and US-based luminaries Derri Daugherty and Phil Madeira.
The World Wide Message Tribe have a busy few weeks coming up. Tonight they have a city-wide gig and have sent invites to all the schools in Manchester. For the rest of the week the group will be in Belfast at another schools event which will also feature Graham Kendrick and former WWMT member Deronda K Lewis. After that they're off to Azerbaijan with Operation Christmas Child before returning for the Christmas Planet Life with Phatfish and Cameron Dante.
The Grassrootz Festival is a new initiative from the promoters of the id event in Tunbridge Wells. Scheduled for July 21st next year, the lineup so far includes Phatfish, Cashu, Jube, and the band formerly known as Why?. The organisers are currently on the lookout for more bands to play and can be contacted by e-mail at id.event@virgin.net
Paul Oakley is reported to be working on a new album, Kiss The River with producer Alan Shacklock, best known for his work with the Alarm but who also recently produced Phatfish. The album is said to "take Paul back to his roots".
Having spent February touring the USA and Singapore, where their new album Purple Through The Fishtank seems to have been well received, Phatfish have a busy summer lined up. The band will be playing a wide range of events on both sides of the Atlantic over the coming months, combining worship sets and a number of performance-based appearances.
Phatfish are gearing up for thestart of a brief US tour this Saturday, followed by a range of UK dates inMarch. The band will be promoting their latest album, Purple ThroughThe Fishtank which was produced by noted US-based producer AlanShacklock.
