Breath of Heaven is the title of the long-awaited new album from David Fitzgerald. The album, which includes a number of Dave's own pieces alongside songs from writers such as Graham Kendrick, Chris Eaton and Joanne Hogg (Iona), is said by Dave to have been inspired by hearing a song Chris Eaton wrote performed at the Albert Hall and picks up links between the terms "breath" and "spirit" within the bible. The album is entirely instrumental, a first for Dave whose last couple of releases have featured choirs prominently. ICC will be releasing Breath of Heaven on September 1st.
Quench, the band which formed earlier this year from the ashes of the final Why? lineup have completed work on their debut EP. The band have been working at ICC Studios with producer Trevor Michael on the EP which is to be released later this summer on ICC's new Elevation imprint. Label manager Adrian Thompson says the band sound nothing like their former incarnation and said that the EP sees them moving in an Ash/Foo Fighters direction.
Kato are going into the studio on Friday to start work on their next album, due for release at Spring Harvest this year. The album will be released by ICC records on a new imprint and the deal is, according to the band, the biggest the label have ever negotiated with a band. The album will be produced by Dave Lynch, known most recently for his work with Toploader. The band say that live favourite "Die for you" will be on the album, complete with a "soaring string arrangement" setting the tone for the rest of the tracks. In other news, Kato's track "Superhero" from the US release of their Seasider album has reached the top ten of New York's NUSOUND radio station.
Superhero have just signed a management deal with Big Ideas, the Cardiff-based organisation which was responsible for the World Wide Message Tribe tour a few months back. The band are off to the USA in January and will spend Easter touring Norway. They hope to fit in a UK tour during the early part of 2001 too. They have spent the last few weeks working on some new songs which they hope to record early in the new year, and are currently in negotiations with Room 3 Records, Alliance Music and ICC.
Kato's Seasider was released in the USA through Rhythm House at the end of October. We are now receiving unconfirmed reports that the band have signed with ICC Records to record a new album, which they'll be working on for the remainder of this year. The band are hoping to arrange a large UK tour for next April.
As you may well have noticed, The Amazing Pilots' Graduate Blood is this month's indie of the month. It's the first release from the band, who recently relocated from Northern Ireland to Eastbourne, but their experience in the recording studio (guitarist Paul Wilkinson is an engineer at ICC studios) certainly shows on this relaxed alt. country influenced release.
The new Psalmistry album will be All This Noise... and is reputed to show influences from artists such as Basement Jaxx, Moby, Asian Dub Foundation, The Prodigy and Travis (?!?). New vocalist Debbie has stepped in to take over from Lucy Britten (now with V-Enna) and this album is said to be more song-oriented than its predecessor. It will be available from July 3rd through ICC in the UK and Europe. The US release date will follow soon.
Split Level played what will almost certainly be their last ever UK concert last night in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Supported by Simon Goodall and local band C*A*S*H*U the band played a set of their newer material. Vocalist/guitarist Adrian Thompson explained that there is no longer the energy to keep the band going with the different members based in entirely different areas of the country, and that the new material he is writing doesn't really suit the band. Split Level will play various concerts on the European mainland over the next five months before calling it a day.
The Amazing Pilots have just completed work on a six track mini-album which they hope to release sometime in June. The band have been busy playing backup to Iain Archer as well as playing a number of shows in their own right.
Recently returned from a youth conference in Madrid, Psalmistry have also been going down well in the USA. Their album has been featured on listening posts in Virgin and Tower Records in New York and Chicago, and the band hope to tour the US before long. Meanwhile the second Psalmistry album is well on its way. It will be distributed in the USA by N-Soul and to the UK and European Christian market by ICC.
Stay With Me, the latest album from Simon Goodall is currently riding high in ICC's best-seller list. The album has been garnering good reviews all round, and a video for the title cut is about to be made. The album was selected by John Pantry for his record of the week on Premier Radio and Simon's cover of Delirious' "Deeper" has received a thumbs up from the band's manager Tony Patoto and guitarist Stu Garrard.
Things are quickly picking up for Northern Ireland's Booley. Following the UK Christian market release of his extended Bathroom Floor album, plans are taking shape for wider distribution. The album will be released on May 22nd to the Irish mainstream and will be accompanied by plenty of press exposure. This will be followed by a US release through Grassroots Distribution on June 7th and a mainstream UK release (along with a single release) in August.
Iain Archer plans to record his next album before the end of the year and if possible in time to release it at this year's Greenbelt festival. He has been playing recently with The Amazing Pilots, originally a Northern Irish act but now based in Eastbourne.
Booley's Bathroom Floor album, in its newly extended state, has been picked up for distribution by ICC and should be available now.
Booley has been hard atworkbuilding on his Bathroom Floor EP.One track, "Be Here", has been dropped, but four new tracks and a newhidden track have been added for a forthcoming re-release.
Following the ending of their contract with US-based Five Minute Walk Records, the Electrics look set to keep importers busy when their long-awaited live album hits the shelves towards the end of this month courtesy of ICC.
ICC Records have finally completed the promised revamp of their website. A new site at http://www.iccrecords.com features details of the label's entire catalogue, complete with sound clips and the option to order the albums. Details of ICC's other work continue to be available at: http://www.icc.org.uk.
