Plans for a scaled down version of the planned "Christmas Rock Night" in London this autumn appear to be going ahead, with news of 7 events over the weekend of 6/7/8 December at London's Garage venue. YMCA and Asylum will be working together for a night on December 8th which will feature Steve, Psalmistry, Fire Fly, Kosher, Xphere, V-12, Axlanbay and Zedisforzebra. It looks like Fono will be returning to the UK for one of the events, and other acts said to be appearing include hotly tipped bands Elviss and Reuben.
A new Fono track, "Before I Blow" is now available from mp3.com. Juliet Turner has just completed a very successful headline tour of the UK and is now on tour supporting Ron Sexsmith. Julie Lord recently won a regional music competition, resulting in plenty of local press attention. Stephen Roy Hill is currently in the studio working on a four track EP. B@sic have filled their vacancy for a drummer and bassist with the addition of Dan Rowntree and John Leary.
Fono continue to do well in the USA where some of their music has been heard backing the show Road Rules on MTV. The show's music supervisor got in touch with the guys adfter hearing some of their new material online. Fono are also continuing their relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls who they supported on tour some months ago. Robby Takac from the Goo Goos has invited Fono to join him in his studio where he'll produce some of their new tracks for them. The band plan to put the tracks on the web for download when they're ready.
Fono continue to hearencouraging responses from the USA and have recently hadtheir tracks "Collide" and "Drift Away" picked up to featureon the USA-wide radio campaign for Miller Genuine Draft's"Blind Tracks" campaign. The company discovered Fono throughtheir MP3.com site, which is currently featuring an as yetunreleased track, "Break It All Down".
Fono are planning to move to San Diego for at least a year from April. The band have been enjoying considerable success in the USA, having toured with acts including the Goo Goo Dolls and the Foo Fighters and are hotly tipped by a number of industry insiders. The band have been working on some demos recently to pitch to record labels. It is hoped that they will play some European dates before making the move.
Secret Archives of the Vatican are still awaiting the release of the Freedom Music Compilation CD which is to feature their track "We Will Not Hate (Progressive Christian Death Punk Mix)". The album is also due to feature Fono, Ashen Mortality, Dust, Careless, Splat, Why Not Wednesday, Elishe, D'original and Focused on Freedom. No release date has yet been announced, but we'll bring you more details as soon as we can.
Fono have just been booked to support rock-legend Robert Plant in both acts' hometown of Milton Keynes on October 19th. It will be Fono's first home town show in over a year as commitments in the USA have kept them on the road. The band were also recently picked up by the "Demo Diaries" website which presents unsigned bands to record execs around the world. As a result the band have been met by a new wave of label and management attention.
The Greenbelt Festival has completed preparation of its music lineup and a day-by-day breakdown of the key acts is now on the festival's website. Recent additions to the lineup include singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading, keyboards man Rick Wakeman, power-quartet Fono and chart act Belle and Sebastian who will be offering a DJ set.
Fono, who have been busy touring the USA for most of the past year, playing with artists from Audio Adrenaline to the Goo Goo Dolls and Foo Fighters, have just completed their first music video. The video for the song "Alcatraz" was shot during the Audio Adrenaline tour by AA drummer Ben Cissell. The band will be back in the UK to play at Greenbelt this summer.
One of the year's more intriguing events is being planned for July 30th in Swansea. Xtreme World is a one-day, two stage festival with a mainstage headlined by acts including Motorhead and Therapy. The second stage, however, features a lineup of artists including The Alarm, Glenn Kaiser (Rez), Fono, Blueprint, The Electrics, SCSI, 3rd Day Rising, Crucifer, Booley, Lorraine King and Cupboard. Fono guitarist Thom Donovan recently married long-time girlfriend Maddie Ferrer in their native city of St. Louis (USA). The band are coming to the end of their tour with Audio Adrenaline and will be back in the UK soon. Singles from their goesaroundcomesaround album continue to do well on Christian radio stations in the US.
Booley has been asked to record a duet with Maire Brennan for a forthcoming compilation. V-Enna are due to release their debut album to the US market on September 26th. Fono and Delirious? will both play at Cornerstone on 6th July in the USA.
Fono continue to be well served by the medium of MP3, having recently scored two songs in the top 20 downloads from mp3.com. The band's entries in the chart were both marked with two arrows, which signifies that they're rising fast. Fono recently took a break from touring with Audio Adrenaline to appear at the SXSW music industry convention and are hotly tipped to break through in the US market.
As documented here, The band, who have seemed on the verge of a major breakthrough since their 1996 debut as Seven supporting Bon Jovi, will be returning to the USA for a 70 date tour starting on January 15th. Northern Ireland based Badger Management have recently signed a deal with the USA's Davdon Artist Agency to exclusively represent them in Europe. Davdon is one of the biggest tour agencies in the AmericanC hristian market, representing artists such as the Supertones and Smalltown Poets as well as the UK's Fono. Under the new arrangement Badger's Stephen Orr (formerly of Halcyon Days) will run a European office for Davdon and the company hopes to raise European business from its current level at 2% of its turnover to between 5 and 10% within the next year. Badger Management's Booley is continuing to gig regularly and receive positive reactions, while Fono are currently touring the US with the Goo Goo Dolls and enjoying increasing airplay. Alterna-rock outfit Fono, who are spending the autumn touring the USA with the Goo Goo Dolls, have landed at number 19 in the US alternative rock charts with their single "Collide". The single is not yet available in the UK, and negotiations are still under way as to which label should distribute it. The band have recently moved management companies. Plenty of news from Fono recently. The band played a great set at the Borderline in London as support to Guamo Ape on the 23rd,introducing fans to new second-guitarist Thom Donovan. The guys also played at Liverpool's Cavern Club as part of the "In The City" music industry convention. Now they're off to the US to tour for 7 weeks with the Goo Goo Dolls, playing before 15,000 a night. On top of all that, the album goesaroundcomesaround has just been re-released in the UK with extra tracks and some remixes. Fono's track "Collide" from their debut album was played every night by the mainstage DJ at this year's V99 festival. The track will be released as a single to the mainstream in October. Halcyon Days have decided to call it a day. One of Ireland's best selling groups, receiving much positive attention for their Alkaline Times album, the band have been together for a number of years and are separating to pursue other projects. As the manager of Booley, Jonny Parks and Brian Houston, and agent for Fono, band drummer Stephen Orr will certainly be keeping busy. After continued uncertainty about their goesaroundcomesaround album'w US release (following a UK release last summer), Fono will receive their US launch in July on KMG Records. Ambitious new rock act Freeze are looking for a male vocalist who's based in the midlands and is looking to join an evangelistic band influenced by All Star United, delirious?, Bride, Guardian, Johnny Q Public and Fono. The band are becoming involved with the Meltdown label and would like anyone interested to contact them at the address in the band index. The new FreeState festival, organised jointly by Greenbelt and Spring Harvest has announced a potential lineup which includes Sixpence None The Richer, Iona, All Star United, Fono, and Steve. Watch this space for more news. The well established Christmas Rock Night in Germany will this year be recorded by ICC Records for a compilation live album to be released in the new year. Christmas Rock Night was the forum that led to US record deals for Split Level, Fono, and The Electrics. This year's event will see the final performance of Grammatrain as well as appearances from a wide range of other artists from several countries. goesaroundcomesaround the first album from Fono (formerly Seven) was released at Greenbelt. The band intend to concentrate on European dates for the autumn before the album release and a tour in the US at the start of next year.
