Plans for a scaled down version of the planned "Christmas Rock Night" in London this autumn appear to be going ahead, with news of 7 events over the weekend of 6/7/8 December at London's Garage venue. YMCA and Asylum will be working together for a night on December 8th which will feature Steve, Psalmistry, Fire Fly, Kosher, Xphere, V-12, Axlanbay and Zedisforzebra. It looks like Fono will be returning to the UK for one of the events, and other acts said to be appearing include hotly tipped bands Elviss and Reuben.
Fire Fly, who went down a storm during Greenbelt's rock afternoon a couple of weeks ago have a new single out. "Blue Eyed Boy", has charted as high as number 2 in mainstream European airplay charts! This may possibly be Fire Fly's last release for Embryo Records. Meanwhile they tell us that writing for the new album is reaching completion and they've played some of the material live over the summer. The band are aiming for an early spring release date.
This year's Greenbelt Festival will feature headline sets from Delirious?, Martyn Joseph's Faith Folk And Anarchy group, folk band Show of Hands, twenty-piece Jazz Jamaica All Stars and Over The Rhine. Also on the initial bill are Fierce-signed All Star United, Cephas, Fire Fly, Dennis Rollins and band, The Ghears and Oxygen. The club side of things is so far represented by Notting Hill's Future World Funk, DJ Rupert and another set from Abundant. A large programme of speakers, classical musicians and other arts has also been announced. Throughout April Greenbelt are featuring daily news stories on their website giving the lowdown on this year's event as well as exclusive musings from artists appearing this year on the festival's theme which will this year be "Kiss of Life".
Fire Fly have just lined up European distribution for their Beauty for Ashes album. The album will be released in 15 European countries through a variety of Christian and mainstream outlets in a deal put together by the band's Dutch agent 'Low Roof'. The band hope to be able to announce UK and US distribution soon but in the meantime are repressing the album so as to have copies available via mail order.
Among the many new releases available at Greenbelt this year was the debut album from Fire Fly, who went down well at the festival with their tight hard-rock stage two set. The seventy minute, 14 track album was made available in pre-release form shortly before Greenbelt on the band's tour of Poland and the Czech Republic and was available in its finished form at the festival.
Fire Fly, who are now well into the process of recording their new album, have just announced Ben Griffiths as their new drummer. Ben is a drum teacher and has settled into the band quickly. He'll be recording drum tracks for the album in the next week or so and the band are hoping for a summer release.
Fire Fly are now in the studio working hard on their as-yet-untitled full-length debut. The band hope to follow its release with a summer tour of Europe and have already been approached to play festivals in Holland, Poland and Germany. They're currently on the lookout for a new drummer and are expecting to have to call on the services of a session musician for the festival dates.
Fire Fly have just returned from a short tour of the Netherlands and are currently in pre-production for their first full-length release. The band are busily sequencing and programming before they do the live recordings with Paul May next month. The band hope to have the recording ready for the summer festival season which will see them playing in Germany, Belgium, Poland and possibly Finland. One small festival in Holland has offered to change its dates in order to accommodate the band.
Fire Fly have nearly completed construction of their own studio, which they plan to use for the recording of the debut full-length release. The studio will be up-and-running this week and they hope to add a little more gear ready to start recording in mid-February. The band are off to Holland next week to do some gigs, building on their success on mainstream radio there which saw them charting highly on at least one station. The band say that European distribution and a tour this summer look very likely.
Fire Fly have been booked for the fourth annual Brainwave Festival in the Netherlands. Also booked for the festival are the USA's Blamed and a number of acts from mainland Europe. Fire Fly also recently appeared alongside Cephas, Crucifer and others at this year's Meltdown Festival in Oswestry. Crucifer announced that the event was to be their last live outing after many years together.
Hotly-tipped post-rock outfit Fire Fly have recently added two new members to their team. After meeting the band at the group vocal recording for Delirious' Glo, Paul Monkhouse (who also works with World Without End) will be taking on the day-to-day management of the band and ex-TVB soundman Andrew "RIG" Seaton will be helping the band out with some sound engineering. Fire Fly will be appearing at Greenbelt.
A whole host of technical problems appear to have put a dampener on Fire Fly's performance at Alton Towers on Saturday. The band had spent many hours working out careful sequencing, guitar effects and more, which were all lost when their borrowed keyboard malfunctioned and crashed the system. The band was reduced to just drums and bass, and then the cymbals broke... The band now have a new keyboard courtesy of some generous supporters and hope that future experiences won't push them back to their lower-tech roots.
The year is shaping up well for Fire Fly. The band will be playing at Youth Alive along with artists including Delirious? and have recently added a mechanical member to their lineup -- they describe their developing sound as "trip hop, skip and jump". The band's management have been in negotiations with a selection of labels and a contract has recently been issued for consideration.
Alternative rockers Fire Fly announced the opening of their new web site this week, to coincide with the release of their debut indie recording, Swings and Roundabouts.
The band formerly known as Autumn, and previously known as Love Lies Bleeding have changed their name once again after finding seven other bands named Autumn. They are now Fire Fly.
Love Lies Bleeding, a Radiohead/Faith No More-esque rock band including former members of Detritus and Seventh Angel are no more. Now with a new drummer, the group have changed their name to Autumn and changed direction slightly.
