Josh Doyle of Dum Dums, who play their last gig at Greenbelt this Saturday, is looking for musicians for a new band he's hoping to form. Mark Cocks of Ripcord is also looking for musicians for a new side project. Details of both of these are to be found on our discussion boards.
In an open letter to fans posted on their website, Josh Doyle of Dum Dums has announced that the band are to split. He says that they've achieved their aims of playing Wembley Stadium and touring the world, and that after four top 40 singles they've decided to call it a day. The band's last ever live performance will be their headline slot on the Saturday night at Greenbelt this year.
As well as headling Greenbelt the Dum Dums hope that this year will see the release of their second album. The first release spawned four top 30 hits and with an increasing international profile they hope to surpass that with the followup. The Dum Dums will also be playing at a Unison benefit show in Manchester next month with Toploader, Catatonia, Idlewild and Wheatus.
Greenbelt has announced an initial lineup including chart act the Dum Dums, celtic favourites Iona, Sarah Masen, Switchfoot, Ben Castle, Martyn Joseph, BottleRockit, Kato, Kendall Payne, and Salvation Street. The festival's next lot of publicity is due to begin arriving on doorsteps this week and lots more names as well as big developments for the festival website are promised over the coming months
Congratulations to Jon (Delirious?) and Kristen Thatcher who have just become parents. Their baby girl is temporarily named 'Kid A' until a more enduring name is chosen. The Dum Dums have had to push back the release of their Army of Two single till the 5th February. Check out the gig guide for revised in-store dates. The Jonah website is currently undergoing a redesign and will relaunch on February 1st with a new look and feel.
The Dum Dums will be appearing on TV a few times over the next week or so, including a performance this Sunday morning on T4, and a behind-the-scenes video from their Shepherd's Bush gig in December (a webcast of which is archives on www.webleytv.com) on Live and Kicking. It's all part of the build up to the release of their latest single, "Army of Two" which is out on January 29th.
After a prolonged silence, Sabio (formerly Fruit) have just announced that they've been added to the bill of the Dum Dums show in Bristol on December 9th. Sabio have been busy playing showcases in their quest for a major label deal. The band will also be playing a gig at the Barfly in Camden next month.
The Dum Dums haveannounced that the next single from their It Goes WithoutSaying album will be the song "Army of Two" and willrelease on January 22nd. The band are currently recording avideo for the single with director Simon Hilton. Lowfingerwill be the support act on the band's Christmas tour, withsome unsigned bands joining the bill as the tour goes on.
The Dum Dums are heading to Japan this week for a promotional tour, to follow the release of their debut album there on November 8th. The group, who have just completed a sell-out tour supporting Robbie Williams also recently released their album in the USA and supported Paul Weller at Earl's Court.
The Dum Dums have turned down the opportunity to take part in this year's Smash Hits tour, reportedly believing that to take part would ruin their indie credibility. The band, who are currently touring as support to Robbie Williams, have instead announced dates for their own UK tour.
On October 18th the Dum Dums will be playing a free gig at King Tuts in Glasgow, to be filmed exclusively for BT's Open World and webcast at a later date. This webcast will be the first ever Broadband Ondemans webcast of a gig in the UK. The band will be on stage between 10:00pm - 10:45pm, heading to the gig straight after supporting Robbie Williams across town. Former World Wide Message Tribe frontman Cameron Dante is sharing a vision for a Radio 1 roadshow style event next June, at Arnold Methodist on Friday 13th Octoberat 7.30pm. Dee Moore will be touring along with support act Spanna over the next few months -- check out the gig guide for dates. The Dum Dums are asking fans who see them on their current tour to e-mail them with photos and stories to contribute to an online "tour scrapbook". Josh from the Dum Dums will appear on "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" on Friday 6th October.
Pop-rock act The Dum Dums saw their debut album, <>i>It Goes Without Saying enter the album charts at number 27, following the entry of the single You Do Something To Me's entry at the same point last week. The single has fallen to number 47 in this week's charts.
The new Dum Dums single, You Do Something To Me entered the charts yesterday at number 27. The band were hampered somewhat by the petrol shortages last week, which resulted in supplies of the single running low in some areas. The band's album, It Goes Without Saying was released today.
The Dum Dums, who played to a large crowd when they headlined the Friday night at Greenbelt have a new single, You Do Something To Me out on September 11th in 3 formats (2 CDs and a cassette). This will be followed on September 18th by the album It Goes Without Saying. The band have been busy over the past few weeks promoting the single and album through a number of high profile festival, TV and radio appearances.
