New Waves of Cephas speculation
Last Updated:
Following an appearance at The Garage with Angelface, speculation suggests
that Andy (former bassist with Cephas, far left) may be joining
Angelface following a 6 month break after the Cephas split.
We have
also recieved word that John (former Cephas front-man, far right) is currently
rehearsing with a new band, under the name "SJJ".
Apologies for
the lack of updates of late, we're working on something new...
Surrey based punk band Cephas, who have built up quite a following over the past few years through their regular touring, have announced that they will be splitting up after this year's Greenbelt. Drummer Ray and his wife are expecting a baby in January and guitarist Adam is leaving the band to study for a degree, so the band felt that the time had come to call it a day. Vocalist John and bassist Andrew are currently "pondering on life and looking to work on a new project."
Following their appearance in a recent XFM advert, Cephas have found their way into the final 32 of that station's 'XFM Unsigned' competition. The competition started today and over the next 8 weeks Claire Sturgess will be featuring one band each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on The Works. Cephas will appear on the show, which airs between 9-11pm, on February 13th. To vote, head to xfm.co.uk/xfmunsigned/. Cephas are listed on the 'week 2' page, though they point out that there are many other "darn fine bands" who you could also vote for if you'd prefer.
Cephas have announced a slight change of lineup, with their dreadlocked bassist Andy Wilson having moved on. The new bassist is called Andrew and is said to be settling in very well. The band have been getting some play on XFM after the track "New Wave" from the demo they sent in for the station's current unsigned bands competition was picked up and used in the trailer for that same competition. They're encouraging fans to contact XFM and ask to hear the whole song. Details are on their website.

This year's Greenbelt Festival proved a resounding success, with the Cheltenham racecourse site filling to capacity. The last ever appearance of Dum Dums was one of the most well attended shows and was followed by a record-breaking five hour signing session, but all the shows were well attended with some bands such as Cephas ending up playing six times over the three and a half days of the festival. The site capacity will be increased for next year's event but early booking is advisable. Let us know what you made of Greenbelt this year on our newly renamed 'Events' board.
Cephas have been having some trouble with their website but assure us that everything's back in order now. There's an MP3 preview from the soon to be released new Cephas EP Fool On Show available at www.epitaph.com/demolition/.

The band expect the new recording, which will consist of five tracks, to have a harder edge to its predecessor. Surrey pop-punkers Cephas have just unveiled their long-awaited website, including news, gig dates, reviews and a number of MP3s. Still preparing to go into the studio to record their second CD, the band are also keeping busy with a number of gigs in the next couple of months.

Steve Lawson is hoping to do a short tour of California early next year. Iain Archer has put his album release plans on hold for the time being. Cephas plan to turn their gig on the 14th December into a bit of a Christmas party, with free food for all. They plan to release a new CD in April.
