As If..., who earlier this year released their first album in several years, In Full Bloom, are already making plans to release a live record next year. Parts of the album will be recorded at a gig at Thame Utd. Football Club in February and they hope to have the album ready for release early in the spring of 2003.
Ultimate Events, the group behind the annual festival at Alton Towers which we've mentioned before are this year running a battle of the bands competition that has attracted hundreds of entries from unsigned bands around the UK. The prize consists of £1000, studio recording time and an opening slot at next year's Alton Towers event. The guys who run the Halcyon event have teamed up with Ultimate Events to host the the web voting on their website. Sibling report that they have reached the semi-finals of the competition, along with As If..., Exalt, Rain, Frequency and 3 Second Memory.
In recent months As If... have launched a new website and a new album. In Full Bloom was finally completed in December 2001 after beginning life almost two years before and was released a few months later. The band say that the new release "managed to capture more of the live energy of the band and has a lot more guitar and live drums." They estimate that 100 gallons of tea were consumed in the making of the record.
The H3 Christian Music Festival is a new event launching this year in Milton Keynes. Running over the 22nd and 23rd June 2002, the event is being run as a benefit for the Bridgebuilder trust who work to promote the gospel in the schools of Milton Keynes. Bands booked so far include Kato, Bryn Haworth, As If..., Bell Jar, Cathy Burton, cult Greenbelt favourite Griff Pilchard and a range of others. The organisers promise camping facilities for 300, great food and drink, craft stalls, record/book shop, quiet area, Sunday morning services, and a relaxed atmosphere. Tickets are now available at all St Andrews Bookshops, priced at £15 to the end of March and £25 thereafter. Tickets also available by post from the address in our festivals listings.
As If... have announced that the followup to their Strange Blue Thing album will be released on February 9th. The new album, titled In Full Bloom will be launched with a gig at Thame Football Club, Oxfordshire. Support on the night will come from Debby+Barnes.
As If... have recently returned from a repeat visit to Norway where they completed a mini-tour. They report the weather as "a tad cooler" than last time they were there but once again enjoyed good audiences. The band and their promoters hope to organise another tour (possibly slightly longer next time) for next year.
Organisers of the Creation 2000 festival planned to take place near Edinburgh in October this year with a lineup which was to include Booley, As If... and Crucifer have had to postpone the event due to problems raising sponsorship. The production team are said to be "disappointed but still committed" to the event which is now expected to run on March 31st next year, presumably under an amended name.
The planned Creation 2000 Festival has received the go-ahead from the local authority for its site near Edinburgh. The festival will feature a number of British and Irish artists, including As If..., Booley and Crucifer.
New Dawn Music have been busy lately, with Brian Taylor joining the Brit Awards Voting Academy, made up of around 1000 music industry insiders who between them select many of the awardwinners. The label's artists remain busy and albums by Loose Goose, As If... and Julie Lord have recently been picked up for US distribution by Musicforce.com. The label have announced some special offers for Christmas.
Formerly known as SGuD, Coventry's Goldsmiths have just finished their debut album. Recorded at Phil Goss' (As If...) Appletree Studios, I Know You Know is due for an end-of-September release.
New Dawn Music have announced a distribution deal to make the new As If... album available in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia, Finland and the Faroe Islands. This is on top of the existing distribution in Germany and Switzerland.
Reformation, the much acclaimed release from Secret Archives of the Vatican is now available with a credit card via the New Dawn Music website for only £10, as well as being distributed through J C Distribution. The new As If... album, Strange Blue Thing is now available through Christian bookshops in the UK and from New Dawn Music.
Ashley and Rachel Taylor, guitarist and bassist from NSC, recently announced the birth of their first son, Jordan James Taylor. Congratulations! The band are supporting As If... with If Only on Saturday and are still hard at work on their new album.
