In between announcing that vocalist Joanne Hogg has given birth to a baby boy named Isaac (congratulations Jo) and that their website is to be redesigned very soon, Iona have informed us that they've been dropped by Forefront records "in favour of looking to sign 'pop acts capable of wider crossover appeal'". Since Forefront had a deal which meant they helped Alliance fund Iona's recording projects, Alliance are no longer able to continue their deal with the band who as a result are now independent. The band have decided to experiment with independetly releasing future albums on their own label and are asking fans to pre-order future projects to help with financing them. At the same time Dave Bainbridge has announced that the first release on Iona's new label will be a 4 CD box set containing the band's first three albums and an additional CD of unreleased material, both live and studio. The box set will also include a 56 page booklet of archive photos. The proposed release date is Spring 2002 and the band are asking interested fans to get in touch for more information.
Movation Records have announced that former World Wide Message Tribe members Tim and Emma Owens and Lyndsey West will be joined by two ex-members of the South-African band MIC in their new group The Tribe. The new group will be recording early in the new year for an August release on Alliance Music.
Word has it that the World Wide Message Tribe is no more. With the departure of Cameron Dante to his DJing work, Claire's move towards overseas mission, Collette's new role training evangelists and Deronda's return to the USA, the remaining members have decided to refocus their work and change the group's name to The Tribe. The Message have also just completed the lineup for a new group to work in the schools of Manchester, the as-yet-unnamed group will start schools work soon and would appreciate any suggestions for their name.
Superhero have just signed a management deal with Big Ideas, the Cardiff-based organisation which was responsible for the World Wide Message Tribe tour a few months back. The band are off to the USA in January and will spend Easter touring Norway. They hope to fit in a UK tour during the early part of 2001 too. They have spent the last few weeks working on some new songs which they hope to record early in the new year, and are currently in negotiations with Room 3 Records, Alliance Music and ICC.
For the second time in just over a year we can report that the name Why? is to disappear from the scene very soon. The guys who formed the latest lineup plan to change their name at the end of the year and are also promising a "complete overhaul of their musical direction". The new band will continue to record on Alliance Music. The band have asked us to pass on their "most sincere thanks for all the love and support we have received this year" and are looking forward to their new venture. The move is sure to please a number of people who have expressed concern about the band continuing as Why? after the departure of Ant Parker. The last chance to see this incarnation of Why? will be on December 15th in Maidstone (click the link for more info). They are also looking for a new bass player -- check out the message boards.
Ian Hamilton has resigned as managing director of Alliance Music in order to take up a position with Compassion International. He is replaced by Dave Withers, a long time member of the Alliance Music team.
