Featured AlbumSome of you may recognise Harv and Prod from Airstar as a result of their previous tenure as guitarists with indie-popsters Flow and those who own that band's Sense may recognise Airstar track "I Never Said" from it.
But as this, their debut EP, demonstrated Airstar are not simply Flow reincarnated. The sound and songwriting have both moved forward and slipped through the backdoor (thereby evading the keepers of the "new acoustic movement") into acoustic territory. With the addition of vocalist Jules, the trio have produced a recording which quietly and unassumingly seeps into the consciousness and stays there.
The EP's six songs are entirely the focus here. The band were recently compared to Crowded House, which is a fair comparison in regards to the fact that these are gentle songs with pop-hooks, but gives the wrong stylistic impression -- Airstar's songs are simpler in their arrangements and benefit from that, with Prod and Jules' harmonies providing a focus and demonstrating the strength of the songs.
UnseenForces is available securely on-line from Sounds Good.
